Our Southern Autumn Bucket List

Our Southern Autumn Bucket List

There’s something about fall that makes me want to slow down and be more intentional with my time. Even though we don’t always get crisp sweater weather in the South right away (more like December), autumn still feels like a season for cozy traditions and family fun. This year, W and I made our own autumn bucket list, and we’re excited to check these off together.

Here’s what’s on our list for this season:

1. Go to a Farmers Market

We’re starting our fall mornings with a trip to the local farmers market. Fresh produce, local honey, and maybe even a pumpkin or two. It’s the perfect way to support small businesses and soak in the community vibe. There is a new one getting up and going near us so I’m excited to check it out and support our local farmers.

2. Read a Fall Novel

For me, autumn isn’t complete without curling up with a book that feels like the season. I’ve got a few cozy novels lined up, and I’m hoping to sneak in some porch reading while W plays outside in the garden.

3. Order a Pumpkin Spice Latte

Yes, it’s basic, but it’s also a fall must. Even if it’s still warm outside, I’m treating myself to at least one PSL this year.

4. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

W is already excited about this one. He loves finding the biggest pumpkin he can carry, and I always pick out a few small ones for decorating the porch. Due to the heat, we usually have to wait until October to do this because if we do it too early, the pumpkins start decomposing. Gross!

5. Fall Movie Marathon

From classics like Hocus Pocus to family-friendly favorites, we’re planning at least one movie night complete with popcorn, blankets, and maybe caramel apples.

6. Bake Together

We’re making this a tradition by picking a recipe and baking it together. W loves helping in the kitchen, and I love having the smell of something sweet filling the house.

7. DIY Fall Crafts

Pumpkin painting, wreath-making, or even a simple art project. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just fun. This one is all about creativity and memory-making. I always try to keep it as a simple craft so W doesn’t get bored so quickly.

8. Backyard Camp Out

Cooler evenings are perfect for pulling out a tent and having a backyard camp out. Flashlights, stories, and s’mores are all on the agenda.

9. Autumn Charcuterie and Wine Night

This one’s for me, a cozy night in with a fall-inspired charcuterie board and a glass of wine after W goes to bed. Think cheeses, apples, pecans, and maybe even a drizzle of honey. Pinterest and Instagram always have amazing inspirational photos. I usually hit up Trader Joe’s to get some fun seasonal extras for my charcuterie board.

10. DIY Spa Night

Self-care is on the list too. A face mask, a warm bath, and candles will make an easy at-home spa night.

11. Go to a Fall Festival

Southern towns love their fall festivals, and I plan to take W to one this season. Between the food trucks, live music, and kids’ activities, it’s always a highlight.

12. Make a Fall Simmer Pot

There’s nothing like the smell of cinnamon, orange slices, and cloves simmering on the stove. It makes the whole house feel instantly cozy.

13. Go on a Nature Walk

We go on randomly named walks. During the summer, it was turtle walks and going into fall, we will be going on leaf walks or other nature walks. We’re adding in simple, no-fuss outdoor adventures. A nature walk lets us enjoy the changing season, even if the leaves turn later here in the South.

14. Decorate Our Home with Fall Décor

Pumpkins, mums, and cozy touches will make our home feel festive for the season. W is always excited to help with the decorating, which makes it even more fun. Now if the mums survive the Texas heat is a completely different story.

Final Thoughts

This bucket list isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about slowing down and creating little moments of joy. Whether it’s a cozy night at home, a fall festival, or a nature walk, these are the memories that make the season so special.
